The Do’s and Don’ts of the Office Christmas Party

Merry Christmas!!!!! So it’s been a long year, you’ve worked hard and you are ready for the festivities to begin…

The office party is finally just around the corner – but what are the do’s and don’ts when attending your Christmas night out with the team?!

Of course, it’s a great opportunity to let your hair down, dance ‘til you drop and enjoy yourself but remember, you are still representing the company and the rules in that handbook still apply!

Here’s the do’s and don’ts

Don’t talk about work!

We’ve been talking about it all year and if you do you may find yourself alone while your work mates disappear onto the dancefloor. If you do happen to talk about work, make sure you are not saying anything confidential or bad mouthing anyone… you never know who’s listening. Keep it fun – after all, it’s a party! Get to know your colleagues and find out their interests outside of work but keep it light. We don’t want a discussion about Brexit…

Don’t lose control – Pace yourself

Free bar is calling!!! Although it’s tempting… know your limit as being merry is fine but when you cross the line to being stupid you may do things that you wouldn’t normally do such as fighting, smooching or even stripping. In this case, you’ll probably end up dreading Monday morning and facing the consequences of your actions.

Don’t dress inappropriately

I love getting ready, wearing a new frock and getting the bling out, but avoid showing too much. Let’s face it – your colleagues don’t need to get to know you that well!

Don’t go ANYWHERE near that mistletoe…

The last thing you want to do is wake up in the morning and have flash backs of that mistletoe with Keith from accounts.

With this in mind, you can still have an amazing time (without regretting it on Monday morning) and do:

  • Eat until you burst
  • Dance until your feet hurt
  • Sing until your throat is sore
  • Enjoy being with your colleagues and friends

From the HR180 team have a fabulous Christmas and here’s to a fantastic new year!
